Nutrition Counseling for Individuals & Families
We provide one-on-one nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to help people make dietary and lifestyle changes. Each session is client centered which enables individual needs to be met. We are all biologically, biochemically, and emotionally unique. Because of this, our bodies each handle food uniquely as well. Our goal is to provide you with the tools and knowledge that are necessary to instill wellness and balance in your own life.
We follow the Nutrition Care Process which is a systematic approach to providing high-quality nutrition care. It includes:
- Nutrition Assessment: The initial session includes an in-depth nutritional assessment including a review of your current eating patterns, lifestyle, and medical history. Together, we will also investigate aspects of your lifestyle that may be impacting your overall health.
- Diagnosis: We will work together to surface and identify the nutritional issues that need to be addressed. This is sometimes done in collaboration with other medical professionals.
- Intervention: Next comes development of a nutritional care plan that will be directed to the root cause of the nutrition problem and aimed at resolving the signs and symptoms of the diagnosis. Together, we will establish goals and create an individualized action plan.
- Monitoring/Evaluation: Follow up visits look at your progress in working to accomplish your personal health goals. Most importantly, in each session, you are able to express what’s going on for you and be heard. Our job is to give you the support you need to be your best healthy self.
Lauren Withers saved my life 2 years ago. I was amidst the darkest point in my life, absolutely entrenched in my Eating Disorder. If you have been trapped and tossed around in the Eating Disorder treatment system, there is no need to worry; Lauren is here. Nobody has or will ever understand my struggles and trauma around food and body like Lauren does. As sad I am for our work to end, I am eternally grateful that I don’t need anyone to understand like Lauren does anymore.
Practice Inclusivity
New Roots Nutrition Counseling is committed to continuing to learn and unlearn ways to support our clients and the community. We acknowledge that there are inequities within the eating disorder field for both our clients and providers alike. Individuals with marginalized identities including but not limited to people in larger bodies, people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, the neurodivergent community and disabled individuals are as likely or more likely to struggle with an eating disorder yet are the least likely to be officially diagnosed and treated for their struggle. New Roots was founded as a way to respond to the inequities and offer hope and solidarity to every person struggling.
Our team of skilled clinicians recognizes that we exist with many privileges as white, thin and average body size, cis-gender women. We believe that each individual’s lived experience is the guiding light in the work we do together. Our clients serve as our teachers and continually help to inform our practice in offering weight inclusive, non-diet, anti-oppressive, trauma informed, neurodivergent affirming work. Thank you for helping us continue to learn and grow.
